The science fiction movie Blade Runner has a great death scene. The android played by Rutger Hauer is dying and says these words:
"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die."
When he dies, he releases a white dove that flies heaven-ward. An effective scene, very well done.
Here is a nice article about these lines: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tears_in_rain_monologue
I heard that line many years ago and it has always stuck with me. Didn't realize that's where it came from.
ReplyDeleteBut the quote was: Memories lost in time like tears in the rain
"Memories lost in time" might be the quote you heard, but the movie said "moments will be lost..." I did record it and played it back in order to double-check. The line is so great, it has been borrowed and re-used. There is a movie where a character has a tattoo that says "tears in the rain." There is a visually powerful scene in the movie "Man Facing Southeast" about how memories die with you, but the scene is not quotable. Thank you for your comment!
